How to get to Viña del Mar from Santiago International Airport (SCL)

Santiago International Airport (Arturo Merino Benítez Airport – SCL) is the main gateway to Chile and the nearest international airport to Viña del Mar.

Upon exiting the Customs & SAG area, please follow the blue arrow markers on the ground. Proceed to the designated counters. There you will be able to select from a range of transportation options to reach Viña del Mar from the airport.

Transfer

Transfer services can be booked in advance or in the counters to take you directly from the airport to your hotel in Viña del Mar. The prices range between USD 90 – USD 130.

Taxi

Official airport taxis can be hired at the arrivals area but could be expensive. Make sure to use authorized services. The trip to Viña del Mar takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic.

Bus + Metro Combination

A more economical option is to take a bus from the airport to the Pajaritos Metro Station (located about 10 minutes away). From there, you can board a long-distance bus to Viña del Mar. Buses to Viña del Mar depart frequently (every 15–30 minutes) and the trip takes about 1.5 hours. Companies like Turbus and Pullman Bus offer comfortable services.

Car Rental

Several car rental agencies operate at the airport.

If you choose to rent a car, traveling from Santiago to Viña del Mar is straightforward and takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

  • From Santiago International Airport (SCL) or from downtown Santiago, you should head west toward Route 68 (Ruta 68), which connects Santiago to the coastal region.
  • Follow Route 68 westbound for approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles).
  • Take the exit toward Viña del Mar and follow the signs; the route will lead you through Route 60-CH, and then to Viña del Mar.

Important notes:

  • Toll Roads: Route 68 is a toll road. Make sure to have Chilean pesos available to pay the tolls, or check if your rental car includes an electronic toll payment system (“TAG”).
  • Driving Rules: In Chile, driving is on the right-hand side. It is mandatory to always carry your driver’s license, passport, and rental agreement while driving.
  • Navigation: Using GPS or mobile apps like Google Maps or Waze is highly recommended for real-time navigation.
